Charges are pending against a Columbus man who was involved in a two-vehicle crash Friday that apparently caused the death of a Galena woman.

Troopers said Monday that they will be filing charges against William James Baker, 28, of Columbus.

They say that the vehicle he was driving rear-ended a 2014 Chevrolet Traverse, driven by Karen Conger, 55, of Galena, on Cheshire Road at Piatt Road at 11:28 a.m. Friday. Troopers said Monday they were not sure which charges will be filed against Baker.

Robert Conger, 80, and Jeanne Conger, 78, both of Galena, were passengers in the Traverse and were injured in the crash. Both were transported to Riverside Methodist Hospital.

Jeanne Conger later died as a result of her injuries.

Robert Conger was still listed as a patient Monday at Riverside Methodist Hospital and troopers said his injuries weren’t life-threatening.

Baker was transported to St. Ann’s Hospital where he received treatment and was released.

Troopers said the investigation is still ongoing.
