Jason Hillyer has replaced Grace Piper on Galena Village Council.

At the June council meeting, Mayor Thomas Hopper presented a proclamation recognizing Piper’s service to the village.

Piper resigned from council in May, having served since January 2012. She represented council on the personnel and parks committees, the records commission, the Delaware County Board of Developmental Disabilities and the Summerfest committee.

Council held a special meeting May 31 and appointed Jason Hillyer to serve the balance of Piper’s term on council. Hillyer is a Walnut Creek resident who has served on the zoning and planning commission. He is a sales representative for McGraw-Hill Education and his career has included education roles at several museums, including The Works, COSI Toledo, The Ohio Historical Society and COSI Columbus.

Estates at Blackhawk resident Dave Walker was appointed to the zoning and planning commission to serve out Hillyer’s term. Walker is retired from management, environmental and engineering positions with the Ohio Valley Electric Corp.’s Kryger Creek Power Plant in southeastern Ohio. He has served on school boards for Gallipolis City Schools and the Gallia-Jackson-Vinton Joint Vocational School, and has been involved with Boy Scouts and the Lions Club.

Village Administrator Jeanna Burrell reported that the Galena Brick Trail bridge decking is proceeding well.
