Safety Day in Ashley

Staff Report

Recreation Unlimited’s 2016 Safety Day will be held on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 from 9:30 a.m. until noon.

Recreation Unlimited, 7700 Piper Rd, Ashley, is a very unique and special place that provides year-round programs for adults and children with physical and cognitive disabilities and health issues.

Delaware County Emergency Management Agency was first contacted in August of 2000 by Recreation Unlimited Executive Director Paul Huttlin about coordinating a safety event for their campers. Many of the EMA’s partner agencies participate each year to provide safety and preparedness information to the campers and staff. First-response vehicles and helicopters are also on-hand to encourage the campers to interact with the various equipment that may come to their home in an emergency. During this event, first-responders have a chance to tour the camp facilities and become acquainted with the layout of the facility.

Approximately 100-120 Recreation Unlimited campers participate each year at Safety Day.
