GetFit event Saturday at industrial park

GetFit LLC is hosting its first community-wide event at the Howald Industrial Park, 320 London Road, from noon to 7 p.m. Saturday to thank the Delaware community for its support over the past thee years.

The event also celebrates the Howald Industrial Park’s 20th anniversary. The nearly 28-acre park — bounded by London Road and Toledo Street — was formerly known as Marvin Industrial Park, the site once had a general casting foundry that has since been demolished and remediated by current owner John Howald. City Council approved a rezoning earlier this year that allowed a bike path to be constructed from the vacated railroad right of way on the northeastern portion of the site to the south end of Tod Street.

Free and open to the public, GetFit LLC’s community event features dozens of vendors, demonstrations of Zumba, Pound and karate. Big Al and his Cap City Players will perform “blues at its best” at 4 p.m.

The Delaware County District Library, Preservations Parks of Delaware County, and Grace Brethren Church volunteers and staff will provide crafts for kids of all ages. Food will be available for purchase from the Delaware Community Market and several food trucks.

During the festivities, Mayor Carolyn Kay Riggle will break ground for the city’s bike path extension.

The event is sponsored by local businesses and organizations, including gold sponsors Western and Southern Life, Delaware Martial Arts, Delaware Chiropractic, Meijer, VANCEGFX, and Heartland Bank; silver sponsor United Way of Delaware County; and bronze sponsors Dream Vacations/CruiseOne, Oberfield’s, SEBO (Structured Employee Benefits of Ohio), Larrimer and Larrimer LLC, MaryKay Cosmetics, and Allstate Insurance.

Proceeds will benefit the Delaware’s Second Ward Community Initiative that focuses on bringing educational training, health and wellness initiatives, and essential resources and services to improve the quality of life and positively impact the Delaware community.
