Sunbury pickup truck buy OK’d

Sunbury’s wastewater treatment plant is getting a new pickup truck.

Plant supervisor Dale Wampler asked the village’s services committee meeting Aug. 3 to request Village Council approval of a new pickup truck for plant use.

Later that evening, council members agreed to have village solicitor David Brehm prepare legislation to spend $23,500 on a 2017 F-150 4X2 regular cab pickup truck from Middletown Ford.

Wampler said sewer plant employees who need to service sewers and lift stations in the community are driving the heavy-duty boom truck used for pulling lift station pumps, or are driving the village’s expensive Vac-Con truck.

Wampler asked for a basic Ford F-150 stripped-down pickup truck from Middletown Ford’s fleet department. He said he had a state bid price from Germain Ford of Columbus for a 2016 model, but Middletown Ford would deliver a 2017 model at a lower price than the Germain 2016 state bid offer.

During council’s meeting, parks and safety committee member Scott Weatherby said a parks survey should be launched in September using SurveyMonkey.

Mayor Tommy Hatfield asked if the survey would be for Sunbury residents only, or seek responses from the greater Big Walnut community.

“One question will ask for demographics,” Weatherby said. “Then we can assemble results from Sunbury residents versus Big Walnut community replies. There will also be questions about youth and recreation sports.”

Weatherby said that, as the community continues to grow, there will be a need to discuss consolidated management of village parks and area youth and recreation sports.

“Our parks agenda is going to become a lot more aggressive as we grow,” Weatherby said. “And we’re going to ask for a lot more money.”
