Middlefield coming to Sunbury

Middlefield Bank will open a new full service banking center in Sunbury later this year.

Most Big Walnut area residents who drive through downtown Westerville have seen a Middlefield bank on the west side of State Street. Some may already bank there; and at least one local business, Joann Hingsbergen’s Subway Sandwich Shop at the intersection of West Cherry Street and Kintner Parkway, was built using a Middlefield Bank commercial construction loan.

The 100-year-old Middlefield Banc Corp., headquartered in Middlefield, Ohio, is a publicly held bank holding company with $760 million in assets that operates 10 full service banking centers and an LPL Financial brokerage office serving the Ohio communities of Chardon, Courtland, Dublin, Garrettsville, Mantua, Middlefield, Newbury, Orwell and Westerville.

Middlefield Bank’s Central Ohio Region President Charles Moore said Middlefield Banc is the most profitable banking institution in the state.

“Middlefield Bank is a solid community bank, and Sunbury is important to us for several reasons,” Moore said. “Sunbury is a growing community, it has the rooftops, and our community bank offers services that will be important to the people living in this community as it grows.”

Moore said Middlefield Bank’s Sunbury branch will open in the former Delaware County Bank & Trust location at the west end of Big Walnut Plaza – the location of a former tanning salon. Moore said the exterior drive-through window at the location would remain unchanged, but the entire interior will be remodeled.

“We believe we’ve found a good partner in Sunbury for a branch site,” Moore said. “One thing we make certain of, we want to complement and support the communities we serve.”

Moore said to expect a Middlefield Bank Sunbury branch grand opening in late September, with a familiar local face, Warren Cox, serving as branch manager.
