Construction is under way for the fourth high school of the Olentangy Local School District.
The school board will discuss the naming process for the new learning facility during its regular meeting at the district’s administrative office, 814 Shanahan Road, 6 p.m. today.
The public will be able to submit names with their reasoning online from Wednesday through Sept. 16, according to Krista Davis, the district’s director of communications.
“It gives people an opportunity to to offer suggestions,” she said.
Davis said the school board will make the final decision.
In addition, Randy Wright, the district’s chief of administrative services, and Davis will go over the process and the timeline of Olentangy schools’ redistricting with the board.
In other business, the board is expected to approve $28,399,312 to Gilbane Building Co., the construction manager of high school No. 4, as the project’s guaranteed maximum price for a total cost of $50,500,800.
Total costs include a subcontract total of $46,512,971 plus a percentage of that cost for Gilbane’s services: 1.5 percent, now at $697,695, for surprise costs; 2.3 percent ($1.35 million) for personnel; 1.88 percent ($1.104 million) for Gilbane’s general conditions; and a base fee of 1.8 percent ($837,234).
Gilbane manages several subcontractors on behalf of the school. Subcontractors for the third round of funds include Miles-McClellan Construction, Buckeye, OCP, TP Mechanical and Vaughn Mechanical.
The third wave of funds for the project would be used for the fourth high school’s metal studs, drywall, ceilings and insulation; fire protection; plumbing; HVAC system; and electrical and technology pathways.
The Gazette has reported that the 303,000-square-foot fourth high school being built on Berlin Station Road east of Gregory Road will cost about $69.6 million. Voters approved in March a no-new-millage bond issue to fund the construction.
The three existing high schools are designed to educate 4,800 students, but enrollment projections suggest there will be 6,600 students by the 2018-19 school year.
The school should open in the fall of 2018.
