Area residents accomplished the sweet feat of exercising while helping to fight diabetes recently, as the second annual “Sweet Feat” five-kilometer walk raised $2,500 for the Central Ohio Diabetes Association.

The money will help Delaware County juveniles with diabetes go to Camp Hamwi.

Organized by the Foot & Ankle Wellness Center, Sweet Feat again took place at Willow Brook at Delaware Run. Participants on Sept. 26 received a T-shirt, a foot-shaped container and the knowledge that they were making a difference, said organizers.

“Sweet Feat intends to bring more awareness about the impact of diabetes in our community,” said Tom Sherer, the center’s director of public relations. “Almost 30 percent of people who have diabetes aren’t even aware they have it. Early detection, testing and seeing a podiatrist all are important.”

The walk was sponsored by the Foot & Ankle Wellness Center, Richwood Bank, SourcePoint, American Family Insurance Carolyn Asher Agency, Buehler’s and Willow Brook Christian Communities.
