0

Activities for all ages will be in ready supply during Main Street Delaware’s Oct. 7 First Friday.

The 6-9 p.m. event, sponsored by Barley Hopsters, 1 N. Sandusky St., will include a display of fire-fighting equipment by the Delaware Fire Department, along with an engaging and informative fire-safety scavenger hunt throughout the downtown.

It also will include free pumpkins for the community’s littlest ghouls and goblins provided by Main Street Delaware and MadMax Farms, 4140 Clarkshaw Road, Powell.

For teen-agers, the evening will include an entertainment area hosted by Lighthouse Youth Center of William Street United Methodist Church.

The Delaware Fire Department plans to perform a vehicle-extrication demonstration using the “Jaws of Life” to cut open a car, as well as a rappelling and aerial demonstration utilizing downtown buildings. Firefighters also will be on hand for a children’s “spray house” and drills, as well as to train guests to use fire extinguishers and smoke detectors.

Sandusky Street will be closed between Spring Street and Winter Street to accommodate all of these free First Friday activities.

In addition to the upcoming First Friday, the Main Street Delaware Farmers’ Market continues from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesdays and from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturdays through Oct. 29. The markets, sponsored by OhioHealth, are held outdoors on Sandusky Street.

In November, Main Street Delaware will celebrate with its Nov. 4 Thankfull First Friday event, sponsored by the LSS Delaware County Food Pantry, and then welcome Santa Claus on Nov. 20 during the 2016 Christmas Parade.

This year’s parade theme is “A Delaware Christmas Story,” and entry forms are available online now at www.mainstreetdelaware.com/parade.html.

In December, Main Street Delaware’s Dec. 2 First Friday will feature the lighting of the downtown Christmas tree, complete with carolers, horse-drawn wagon rides, and Santa’s House.
