Court of Common Pleas Judge David Gormley lost his bid for the seat on the Fifth District Court of Appeals.

Gormley won Delaware County 43,585 votes to 24,267, but lost overall to Earle E. Wise for the open seat.

Wise, a Canton attorney, got roughly 52 percent of the vote compared to 47 percent for Gormley with 99 percent of the ballots counted, according to the Ohio Secretary of State’s Office. In raw numbers, Wise topped Gormley by 255,495 to 235,449 votes.

“Despite the outcome, I’m grateful to the many friends who helped me along the campaign trail in recent months. Their support and encouragement made this journey a fun one. And now I’ll be diving back with earnest into my job on the Court of Common Pleas of Delaware County. The work on that court is interesting and challenging, and I’m honored to continue my public service there,” Gormley said.

His current six-year term on the common-pleas court ends in February 2021.
