Board considers 2017-2018 calendar

The Delaware City Schools Board of Education announced its proposed calendar for the 2017-2018 school year during its Monday night meeting.

The proposed calendar was submitted for discussion at the meeting. The Board of Education will receive public input for 30 days before voting on the calendar at their December 12th meeting.

Residents can share your comments by sending an email to [email protected]. The calendar can be viewed on the district’s website.

Important dates on the proposed calendar are:

Aug. 16 – First day of school

Sept. 4 – Day off for Labor Day

Sept. 21-22 – No school for Little Brown Jug/Delaware County Fair

Oct. 20 – No school for teacher in-service day

Nov. 22-24 No school for Thanksgiving Break

Dec. 21 to Jan. 3 – No school for Winter Break

Jan. 15 – No school for Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Feb. 16 – No school

Feb. 19 – No school for President’s Day

March 12 – No school for teacher in-service day

March 30-April 6 – no school for spring break

May 30 – Last day of school

In other business, the board:

• Approved several staffing changes including accepting the resignations of Lisa Holland and Megan Hord, cooks/cashiers at Dempsey and Hayes respectively; Patricia Wilson, a School-Aged Child Care assistant at Woodward and Sally Selmek, a substitute nurse for the district.

• Approved the employments of Sheryl Hall, a technology specialist at Carlisle; Alissa Wright, a SACC assistant substitute; Karen Paver, a bus driver. Jordan Brown, Lee LeBoueuf and Mallory Griffith were also approved as 21st Century Community Learning Center Tutors.

• Approved a number of change orders for to pay for additions to ongoing construction projects through the district.
