Lewis Center couple dead after murder suicide

A Lewis Center couple were found dead Sunday afternoon as the result of an apparent murder-suicide, officials from the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office reported Monday afternoon.

Tracy Whited, the head of community and media relations for the sheriff’s office, said that at 4:10 p.m. Sunday deputies were dispatched to the Aurora Avenue home of 33-year-old Rachel E. Reutzel and 41-year-old Todd Reutzel after family members hadn’t heard from them and were concerned.

Whited reported that the couple was not at the home and deputies began to search the area.

An hour later deputies discovered Rachel Reutzel’s body inside the family vehicle on the Lewis Center access road to Alum Creek beach. Todd Reutzel’s body was found about 75 yards away from the vehicle.

Whited reported that both were pronounced dead from gunshot wounds and investigators believe Todd Reutzel took his own life after shooting his wife.

Deputies reportedly had no prior history at the family’s address and had not been called to deal with either of the Reutzels.

The sheriff’s office was assisted by Genoa Township Police, Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Preservation Parks of Delaware County and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigations.

The investigation is ongoing.
