Delaware County Board of Realtors revive Christmas light contest

There’s more incentive to outdo your neighbors’ holiday displays this year, because the Delaware County Board of Realtors is once again putting on a Christmas light contest.

“The lighting contest has not been a part of the public relations commitment for the board for the last two years,” said Realtor Stephanie VanGundy. “This year, as PR chairman for the Board of Realtors, I decided to bring it back, because I felt Delaware needed it again. You heard so many people talk about it and they wondered where it went, and so many people decorate their homes. It just makes it fun.”

The event will be countywide, and not limited to houses decked out with lights.

“We look at anything that is decorative to the house for Christmas,” VanGundy said. “I know in prior years, they have looked at homes that have had 20 inflatables, because those also light up.”

Contest participants will need to fill out an electronic entry form by Dec. 14. The Realtors will do the judging Dec. 16-17. The winner will be announced on Dec. 18.

“First place will get a sign that they get to keep for their yards, and a gift card,” VanGundy said. “The runner-up will get a sign and a gift card, as well. Our board is very excited to bring it back, and look forward to many other years.”

A photo of the winning home will also appear in a future issue of The Gazette.
