Genoa zoning commission has vacancy

The Genoa Township Zoning Commission has an opening.

During last week’s township trustees’ meeting, Genoa Development and Zoning Director Joe Shafer announced that Zoning Commission member Rick Ryda resigned because he is moving out of the township.

Trustees noted that the commission has two sitting alternates, but the voting seat at the commission dais should be advertised to enlarge the pool of candidates.

The vacant seat available for appointment by trustees is for a term expiring March 31, 2019.

Trustees noted that they reserve the right to appoint an applicant to serve as an alternate member of the commission, as opposed to a regular member of the commission should they see fit.

Members of the Zoning Commission are responsible for providing recommendations to trustees on zoning matters, such as re-zonings, land developments, zoning amendments and the township’s comprehensive plan.

Zoning Commission members are expected to be (or become) familiar with the township’s zoning resolution, as well as general zoning and planning laws and principles.

Members of the Zoning Commission are expected to attend at least one regularly scheduled meeting a month, as well as any other special meetings and/or training sessions; and may be assigned to serve on special committees as necessary.

Members of the commission must be a resident of Genoa Township, and may be compensated at the discretion of trustees.

The township’s development and zoning department will accept applications for the commission vacancy until Friday, Dec. 4.

Applications can be obtained from the township administration and zoning office or online at genoatwp.com.

Applications may be hand-delivered to the township administration and zoning office at 5111 S. Old 3C Highway, Westerville, or e-mailed to Joe Shafer, director of development and zoning, at [email protected].

Questions may be directed to the township Department of Development and Zoning, 614-899-0725.
