The Delaware Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a one-vehicle fatal crash that occurred at about 2:30 a.m. Wednesday on State Route 42, near mile post 11, in Brown Township.

Scott Michael Wilson, 37, of Delaware was operating a 2006 Audi A8 northbound on State Route 42. Wilson failed to negotiate a curve and drove off the east side of the road striking a traffic sign, a tree, and a fence.

Wilson had two passengers in the vehicle. Charles R. Whipkey, 37, of Columbus, and Joshua D. Blevins, 36, of Delaware. Wilson and Blevins were transported by Med Flight to Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center with critical injuries.

Whipkey was pronounced deceased at the crash scene by the Delaware County Coroner’s Office. The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, Delaware City Fire Department, Tri Township Fire Department, and Delaware County EMS.

Safety belts were not in use by the occupants.

Alcohol/drug use is suspected and the crash remains under investigation.
