A Delaware man has been indicted by a Delaware County grand jury on a variety of charges, including violating a protection order and assault.

Vernon William Davis Jr., 66, of 243 Penick Ave., was indicted Friday on two counts of abduction, which are third-degree felonies; seven felony counts of violating a protection order; two counts of domestic violence, which are first-degree misdemeanors; and three counts of assault, first-degree misdemeanors.

Court documents say the indictment covers a series of crimes allegedly committed between Oct. 7 and Nov. 4 in Delaware County. The violation of a protection order deals with Davis and a Delaware woman who obtained a protection order against him in 2006.

These alleged crimes include:

• On Oct. 7, police said Davis was seen inside the car of the woman and yelled at her.

• On Oct. 24, police said a fight occurred at an address on Belle Avenue and Davis punched a Delaware man in the face and assaulted the woman who had the protection order against him.

• On Nov. 3, police said Davis had taken the woman into his vehicle against her will when officers stopped him. He was then arrested and charged with violating a protection order.

• On Nov. 4, Davis called the woman from jail and she reported the call to police. He was subsequently charged with another count of violating a protection order.

Davis appeared in Delaware Municipal Court on Nov. 5 and entered a not guilty plea to two charges of violating a protection order.

His bond was set at $40,000 and he has been in the Delaware County Jail since his Nov. 3 arrest.

An arraignment in Delaware County Common Pleas Court has not been scheduled.
