U.S. Rep. Pat Tiberi will remain in a leadership position on the House Ways and Means Committee.

The Ohio Republican has been appointed to serve as chairman of the Subcommittee on Health, according to a press release issued by his office on Wednesday.

“I am honored to have the opportunity to chair the Health Subcommittee,” Tiberi said. “I look forward to working with Chairman (Kevin) Brady and other members of the subcommittee to find opportunities to improve the quality, affordability, and accessibility of healthcare, while creating the foundation for a patient-centered health care system for all Americans. We will build on our efforts to make Medicare more efficient and effective so we can keep Medicare’s promise to tomorrow’s seniors. As chairman, I plan to work with my colleagues to dismantle detrimental policies in Obamacare and reduce the impact on seniors, patients, employers and providers.”

Tiberi lost to Texas Republican Rep. Kevin Brady in the race for the Ways and Means Committee chairman’s slot. Brady received the endorsement of the GOP steering committee on Nov. 4 and was confirmed by the full Republican conference on Nov. 5.

Tiberi is a member of the Subcommittee on Tax Policy, formerly known as the Subcommittee on Select Revenue Measures. He previously served as chairman of the Subcommittee on Trade.

“It has been an honor to serve most recently as the trade chairman,” he said. “I am proud of the work we did on Trade Promotion Authority, providing more oversight and transparency for trade agreements. This was a critical piece of legislation that laid the groundwork for transparent consideration of agreements, such as the Trans-Pacific Partnership. I look forward to remaining closely involved in trade matters moving forward. Meanwhile, I will also continue to pursue legislation that will encourage economic growth and job creation by continuing to serve on the Tax Policy Subcommittee.”

Tiberi, a resident of Genoa Township, has served Ohio’s 12th Congressional District since being elected in November 2000.
