Christmas on Square on the horizon

The village of Sunbury’s 34th annual “Christmas on the Square” celebration is scheduled for 4:30 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5.

Organizers say it’s not too late to plan a float or other parade entry for this year’s Big Walnut area Christmas gala.

Christmas on the Square will feature a 5:30 p.m. lighted Christmas parade (parade stages at 5 p.m. at Burrer Drive), visits with Santa, a Christmas craft and gift fair, a holiday open house for local merchants around Village Square, a doughnut-eating contest, and more.

Other evening highlights include a live nativity scene, courtesy of Central Baptist Church, and the Sunbury Lions Club’s annual Christmas tree sale, with proceeds going to Big Walnut Friends Who Share.

“The Sunbury/Big Walnut Area Chamber of Commerce is very excited to be presenting the 34th annual Christmas on the Square to the community,” said chamber executive director Deb Jackson. “The support we’ve received from this year’s many sponsors has been phenomenal. We’re expecting a record participation for the holiday open house this year from the businesses on the square.”

Jackson said the chamber is excited to be able to invite people in out of the cold and show off the chamber of commerce office and meeting space where the craft and gift fair will be held. The chamber is at 39 E. Granville St. on the south side of Village Square.

“We’re still accepting registrations for the annual lighted parade that will kick off the evening’s festivities,” Jackson said.

More information about this year’s lighted parade and a registration form can be found at SunburyBigWalnutChamber.com or by calling the chamber office at 614-965-2860.

The Dec. 5 Christmas on the Square celebration will include a lighted parade at 5:30, tree lighting at 7, and a host of activities.
