An East Liberty man was killed in a crash Sunday around 2:20 a.m. on State Route 37.

Troopers from the Delaware Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol reported that Nathan J. Culbertson, 24, of East Liberty, Ohio, was driving a gray 2010 Honda Accord westbound on State Route 37 west of State Route 203. Troopers said while driving, Culbertson went off the right side of the road, over corrected, drove off the left side of the roadway and hit a tree.

Culbertson was transported to Ohio State Wexner Medical Center by medics, but later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, Radnor Township Fire Department, Tri Township Fire Department, and Delaware County EMS.

Alcohol is suspected in the crash and the crash remains under investigation.

Mr. Culbertson was not wearing his safety belt at the time of the crash.

This is the first fatal crash of 2017. The highway patrol and Delaware General Health District reported last week that there were 24 crash fatalities in 2016, a record high.
