The Delaware Planning Commission will consider a Columbus-based company’s development plan for a new building near the city’s industrial park at tonight’s meeting.

Robin Brannan of Midway Structural Pipe and Supply Inc., 999 Bonham Ave., has expressed interested to City Council in relocating the more than 60-year-old business to the intersection of Pittsburgh Drive and Section Line Road, because she wants the company to be more accessible to better talent.

Midway had about 18 employees as of November when Council approved a Community Reinvestment Area agreement with the company for the construction of the 29,480-square-foot facility on 11 acres at the site.

The vacant property generates about $890.06 per year, City Economic Development Director Sean Hughes said, with a large portion going to Delaware City Schools.

The district would have seen an 880 percent increase in tax revenue from the property when utilized for industrial purposes, he said.

“Incentives can be a win-win for all partners when structured properly,” Hughes said. “With this incentive package, we estimate the schools will receive about 39 percent of what they would have received if the building itself were not abated with the increase in land value, combined with our school compensation payments.”

“This is much greater for the schools than if the land continued to sit vacant and be taxed at (Current Agricultural Use Value),” Hughes added.

Brannan said in December the relocation is dependent on the planning commission’s vote.

In other business, the vacation of an alley, east of Euclid Avenue between West Fountain Avenue and West Lincoln Avenue, is still on the agenda after it was tabled on Dec. 7, 2016. Cory Hupp and his wife, who live on Euclid, plan to take ownership of the alley to improve maintenance. The Hupps have worked out an agreement with adjacent property owners over the past few months.

The commission will meet at City Hall, 1 S. Sandusky St., 7 p.m. in council chambers.
