A Canal Fulton man was killed in a single-vehicle crash Friday morning on Interstate 71 in Delaware County.

The Delaware post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is still investigating the crash that occurred about 4:05 a.m. on I-71 at the State Route 521 overpass in Kingston Township.

Troopers report that Brian D. Chillik, 44, of Canal Fulton was driving a 2013 Kenworth commercial truck, pulling a set of double semi trailers, when he drove off onto the right berm and sideswiped a concrete barrier wall under the SR 521 overpass. Troopers said the vehicle proceeded off the right side of the roadway, through a ditch and hit a line of trees.

Officials pronounced Chillik dead at the scene.

Troopers said alcohol is not believed to have been a factor in the crash. Chillik was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

Troopers said Friday that Chillik’s next of kin had been notified.
