Judge David A. Hejmanowski has joined the Ohio State Bar Foundation Board of Trustees.
Along with an accomplished group of legal professionals, he will help lead more than a thousand attorney volunteers who are committed to promoting public understanding of the rule of law and improvements in the justice system.
Judge Hejmanowski’s interest in the law began when he was a child.
“My mother has my school records book from the second grade that contains, in my handwriting, a response to the question ‘What do you want to be when you grow up?’” His answer? “Fireman, Astronaut, Lawyer,” he said.
Fulfilling his second-grade goal, Judge Hejmanowski received his Juris Doctor from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law in 1999. He is Judge of the Delaware County Probate/Juvenile Court.
When not on the bench, Judge Hejmanowski spends his spare time improving the lives of those around him.
“Because I live and raise my family in the community in which I work, I take great pride in what we can accomplish as a community, in how we can help others to be better and have a vested interest in making the community as successful as it can be,” he said. “Through the Ohio State Bar Foundation, those concerns and efforts can have a statewide impact, benefitting communities throughout Ohio.”
In addition to his volunteer work as a Trustee and Fellow of the OSBF, he serves as the attorney coordinator for the Delaware County Interfaith Legal Services Clinic which has helped more than 2,000 clients in eleven years of operation.
He is also a board member of the Ohio Wesleyan Junior League, and a current board member and past president of the Central Ohio Symphony. In the past, he served on the board of Andrews House, an organization that provides hospitality, healing, education and service for individuals and families in the Delaware community.
Judge Hejmanowski is a frequent presenter at legal education seminars for the Supreme Court of Ohio’s Judicial College and the State Bar Association. In 2005, he was appointed by Chief Justice Moyer to the Supreme Court Advisory Committee on Interpreter Services and reappointed to that committee by Chief Justice O’Connor in 2012.
He served on the Supreme Court task force that drafted Ohio’s juvenile competency statute, the juvenile representation task force and the Court Structure Subcommittee of the Supreme Court of Ohio’s Task Force on Funding of Ohio’s Courts.
