Olentangy has final four for Berlin HS principal job

The men’s NCAA basketball tournament and the Olentangy Local School District will each have their own final four in early April.

The school district will have final interviews for the principal of Berlin High School during the week of April 3. Olentangy’s fourth high school will open in the fall of 2018.

Sixty people applied for the job with 14 interviewed by some of the current high school principals and other administrators in the first-round of interviews. The second round will include parents, students and staff members to provide input.

The school district provided The Gazette the names and resumes of the following four candidates:

• Michael J. May: The current principal of Marion L. Steele High School in Amherst, Ohio, since August 2013. May has worked as a school administrator since 2007 and, before then, a social studies teacher since 2004. He earned his bachelor’s degree in history from York College of Pennsylvania in 2001; a master’s degree in history from Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey 2003; and a master’s degree in education administration from Wilmington University in New Castle, Del., 2006.

• Zoraba Q. Ross: The current principal of Cleveland Heights High School in University Heights since 2014. Ross’ administrative experience goes back to 2004. He was an assistant executive director at the Martin Luther King Jr. Performing and Cultural Arts Complex in from 1999 to 2004 and and administrative coordinator for the Columbus Recreation and Parks Department from 1995 to 1999.

Ross was a physical education and AIDS coordinator at West Broad Elementary school in Columbus from 1990 to 1995. He earned a bachelor’s degree in education from the Ohio State University in 1988 and a master’s degree in education administration from Ashland University in 2003.

• Thomas B. McDonnell: The current principal of Olentangy High School since 2008. McDonnell has worked as an administrator since 2002. He taught advanced placement courses in U.S. history, psychology and sociology at Dublin Scioto High School from 1999 to 2004. McDonnell taught summer school at Bexley High School in 1999.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Bowling Green University in 1992; a master’s degree in curriculum and classroom instruction from Ohio State in 1999; and a master’s degree in education administration from Ashland University in 2004.

• Todd D. Spinner: The current principal of Westerville Central High School since 2007. Spinner has worked as a school administrator since 2001. He was a language arts teacher at Dublin Scioto High School from 1995 to 2001. He earned two bachelor’s degree from Ohio Dominican University in secondary education and interpersonal communications; and a master’s degree in education from Ohio State.
