A massive fire at Sims Brothers Recycling landfill in Marion Thursday had no impact on the company’s Delaware yard on London Road.

Gary Sims, president and chairman of Sims Brothers Recycling, said the fire was contained and no one was injured.

“All that burned were piles of scrap. It had no affect on our Delaware site and we are back to normal work here today,” Sims said Friday afternoon.

Delaware serves as a collection yard in the Sims operation. The company also has a site in Bellefontaine.

“It’s a big part of our business. It gives us another geographic location. We bring material to Marion to process it and sell it,” Sims said.

The fire was reported at Sims Brothers Recycling at 9:50 a.m. Thursday. Fire officials have yet to determine a cause.

The Marion Star reported the operation has no hydrants, nor are those required. Consequently, firefighters had to pump water about 1,800 feet from Barks Road and about 1,200 feet from South Prospect Street and use relay pumps to maintain pressure.
