Buehler’s Fresh Foods will close its Delaware store at the end of business on Saturday, Feb. 13, according to its parent company.

Parent company E&H Family Group also confirmed that its ACE Hardware Store will remain open after the supermarket closes. The Delaware County Bank, also located in the complex, will remain open, the company said.

E&H first announced Jan. 4 that it would be closing the Delaware Buehler’s at 800 W. Central Ave.

“The painful decision to close came after a year of deliberating Buehler’s entire portfolio of stores,” said a company statement on Jan. 4. “Buehler’s tried a number of initiatives over the last few years at Delaware, but were at a disadvantage with only one store in a heavily over-stored Delaware market.”

E&H said that customers may take 25 percent off the cost of their entire purchase (exclusions apply), beginning today until Feb. 2. The cost of remaining inventory will be reduced by 30 percent with the same exclusions Feb. 3-13.

The complex owner is reviewing options with developers and city officials to recruit a potential occupant for the supermarket space, company officials said.

The closing will affect 131 employees — 40 full-time, 23 part-time and 68 seasonal.

Buehler’s was founded in 1929 by former A&P employee E.L. (Ed) Buehler and his wife, Helen, in New Philadelphia. The company is now based in Wooster.
