Delaware County commissioners pass road improvements

Improving the intersection of Lewis Center and North roads are among resolutions recently approved by Delaware County commissioners.

County Engineer Chris Bauserman “has determined that minor widening of Lewis Center Road (County Road 106) and reconstruction of the intersection with North Road is required to improve safety and traffic flow in the area,” states the resolution passed by commissioners. This was after “Orange Township declared necessity for improvements to North Road (Township Road 272) and ordered the county engineer to prepare surveys, plans, profiles, cross-sections, estimates and specifications.”

Bauserman told commissioners at their meeting last week that Westerville-based IBI Group will prepare those surveys and plans.

The county’s 2016-17 “Construction Guide” lists the Lewis Center and North Road improvements as a 2018-19 project. The estimated cost is $3 million, from county and township funds. The project consists of the “widening of Lewis Center Road from the Olentangy High School entrance to the CSX Railroad, including intersection improvements at North Road. … Also minor widening of North Road approximately one-half mile north of Lewis Center Road with shared use path.”

In other business, commissioners approved:

• Ditch maintenance assessments of $340,547.73 for the Inn at Bear Trail off Old State Road in Orange Township.

• A left-turn lane for Courtyards at Maxtown in Genoa Township that will cost the owner, Epcon, $482,100.

• Purchasing equipment for the county engineer’s office, including five new Ford F-150 pickup trucks for $146,953.20.

• Placing bid specifications for annual tree clearing.

• Purchasing properties for the South Old State Road widening project, as well as the Home and Steitz roads improvements.

• Right-of-way work permits for utility companies working in the county.

• Accepting bids for bulk gasoline and diesel fuel.

• An agreement with Sierra Wireless America for a communications system with the county’s Emergency Medical Services department.

• Appointing county Economic Development Director Bob Lamb to seven different tax incentive review councils.

• Sanitary subdividers’ agreements for the Villas of Olentangy Phase 2, The Ravines at McCammon Chase and North Farms Section 3 and Section 7 Phase A.
