A Delaware man was killed when he was struck by a car Tuesday night while he was walking on U.S. 23.

Dead is John E. Butsko, 56, of Delaware.

The Delaware post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said the crash occurred at about 10:50 p.m. Tuesday on northbound U.S. 23 near mile post 14 in Delaware Township.

Butsko was walking and crossing the northbound lanes of travel on U.S. 23, troopers said.

Alana D. Kilzer, 69, of Marion, was driving a 2011 Toyota Camry north on U.S. 23 in the right lane when she struck Butsko who was attempting to cross the road, troopers said.

Butsko was pronounced dead at the scene by the Delaware County Coroner’s Office, troopers said.

Kilzer and her passenger, Kristen D. Chesnut, 31, of Marion, Ohio, were both wearing seatbelts and did not sustain any injuries, troopers said.

The northbound lanes of U.S. 23 were closed for about two hours after the crash.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted by the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, Delaware County EMS and Tri-Township Fire Department.

Alcohol is not believed to have been a factor in the crash, troopers said.

The crash remains under investigation.
