Delaware Christian parlayed a big second quarter into an impressive 52-38 win over visiting Shekinah Christian Monday — its second win over the Flames this season.

The Eagles found themselves locked in a battle early, leading just 13-11 after the first quarter. Emily Cornelius sparked DCS in the second quarter, though, drilling a trio of three-pointers to highlight a 17-6 and balloon the lead to 30-17 by the half. Shekinah finished the third with a 13-12 edge, but the hosts smoothed out the scoring with a 10-8 advantage in the fourth to close out the scoring summary.

DCS picked up where it left off after the big second, starting the third quarter with an inside hoop from Erin McCullough.

The Flames battled back with five quick points, but Bethany Kuykendall hit a running jumper to push the lead back into double digits shortly after.

The Eagles kept the pressure on when Alix Stone collected a steal near midcourt before being fouled on her sprint toward the hoop. She made the first free throw, missed the second, but McCullough grabbed the rebound and scored inside to push the lead to 40-26 with less than three minutes left in the third. Shekinah battled back a bit, but never got close enough to make DCS sweat.

McCullough led the way with 21 points and 14 rebounds in the win. Cornelius finished with nine points, all coming in the second, while Kuykendall closed with seven points, seven rebounds and three steals. Other standouts included Katie Morgan, who finished with five points; and Stone, who finished with five points and five rebounds while holding Shekinah’s best player to just eight points on the other end.

The Eagles return to action Thursday, set to take on host Grove City Christian at 7:30 p.m.
