Lauren Biehl and Halle Freese provided the headlines during the recent Knights of Columbus Regional Free Throw competition earlier this month at Columbus Bishop Ready High School, winning their respective age divisions to advance to the state finals.
Biehl (13 years old) made 18 of her 25 attempts in regulation, finishing tied for first place. She was even better in the shootout, calmly connecting on four of her five tosses to move on. Freese (14), meanwhile, outshot all her competitors to claim the championship in her division.
Other shooters who were representing the St. Mary Knights of Columbus council included Andy Somodi (10), who made 22 of 25 and finished in second place; Justin Brackenridge (12), who tied for third with 17 successful attempts; Sam Lagando (13), who made 20 of his shots to finish third; and Liam Aman (14), who made 23 of 25 and was the runner-up in his bracket.
