Pacers take sting out of Yellow Jackets

The Delaware Hayes girls tennis team made the most of its trip to Mount Vernon Thursday afternoon, sweeping the doubles courts and taking two of three at singles en route to a solid 4-1 win over the Yellow Jackets.

Reghan Gist and Ava Vogel picked up the singles wins. Gist beat Mount Vernon’s Cameron Carlson 6-4, 6-3 at second singles while Vogel knocked off Leah Gourley 6-2, 6-3 at third singles.

In doubles action, Hayes’ Autumn Doughty and Delaney Nelson teamed up to notch a 6-2, 6-2 win at first doubles while Gina and Ella Martin held on for a 6-1, 7-6 win at second doubles.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Olentangy Liberty picked up its second league win in the last three days Thursday, knocking off host Upper Arlington in straight sets.

The Patriots won the opener 25-7 before sealing the deal with wins of 25-12 and 15-16 in the second and third, respectively.

Claire Murkowski led the attack with 10 kills. Other standouts included Lauren Sackett, who had four aces; Meredith Murkowski, who finished with nine digs; and Mitha Hatwar, who had 14 assists.

Olentangy Berlin 3, Hilliard Darby 1

The Bears got back to their winning ways Thursday night in Delaware, handling the visiting Panthers in four sets.

Darby took a tight opening set 25-23, but Berlin won the last three 25-17, 25-14, 25-12 to seal the deal.

Rozalyn Zeilinski led the charge with 19 kills in the win.

BOYS SOCCER

J.P. Seliskar and Kaiden Coup scored two goals apiece as Buckeye Valley cruised to a 5-1 win over West Jefferson Thursday night.

Jack Kaiser also found the back of the net while Brayden Fox had a pair of assists.

Treyden Williams and Gavin Cameron anchored the defense, combining for three saves while splitting time in the BV goal.

Also: DeSales 3, Olentangy Orange 0.

GIRLS SOCCER

Ava Otey scored in the final minutes to put the finishing touches on Olentangy Orange’s 3-0 win over visiting Watterson Thursday night in Lewis Center.

Lauryn Barringer and Alexis Knisely also scored in the win.
