Ethan Tucky had himself quite an afternoon Tuesday in Delaware, winning the 100- and 200-meter dashes to lead Hayes’ boys track and field team to a 68-60 OCC-Capital Division win over visiting Orange.
Oh, and he broke a school record in the process.
After cruising to a win in the 100 with an effort of 10.97 seconds, Tucky won the 200 in 21.88 to break the previous school record set by Jerome Bohanna back in 1972 … not bad for a day at the track.
Several other Pacers came through, too, including Collin Wittig, who picked up first-place points in the shot put and discus with respective efforts of 49-0 and 127-0; Justin Hernan, who won the 1,600 and 3,200 in respective times of 4:47.98 and 10:50.69; and Caleb Howell, who won the long jump with a leap of 18-11.
Hayes’ 4x800 (9:26.51) and 4x200 (1:39.06) relay teams also notched wins.
The Pioneers were powered by Charles Karas, who won the 110 hurdles in 18.93 seconds and the 400 in 55.5 seconds; Andre Keels, who won the 300 hurdles in 42.81 seconds; Brandon Morrow, who won the 800 in 2:05; and Taraji Hillard, who won the high jump with an effort of 5-6.
Orange also won the 4x400 (3:54.28) and 4x100 (48.0 seconds) relays.
