This month’s First Friday event in downtown Delaware will feature 25 “galleries” displaying student-created art from Delaware City and Buckeye Valley schools.

“Each business that participates will have anywhere from 8 to 15 pieces of artwork, depending on how much space they have,” Frances Jo Hamilton, Main Street Delaware Executive Director, told The Gazette.

While the students and their parents get a flier that tells which businesses will participate as a gallery, they will have to visit them to see which gallery has their particular piece, Hamilton said.

The gallery opening will be from 6-9 p.m. March 7, but the art will be on view through the end of the month.

Hamilton said this is the seventh year for “March for Art.”

“It’s grown exponentially,” she said. “We started out with 40-50 pieces, and now it’s anywhere from 400-450 pieces.”

The City of Delaware’s Public Works department will have some of its equipment on view during First Friday, as well.

Main Street Delaware, which presents First Fridays monthly, is a non-profit economic development organization for the downtown business district. This month’s event is sponsored by Button Up.
