Delaware’s Liberty Casting announced on March 3 it will invest $4.6 million to expand and renovate its Liberty Road facility, adding 52 jobs.

“It was really a collaborative effort with the city of Delaware to engage us after they heard of the opportunity for growth with the facility,” Chris Strayer, project manager with Columbus 2020, told The Gazette. “It was a fantastic project to work with all parties on.”

Strayer said Columbus 2020 works with the community and Jobs Ohio “to help put resources in front of the companies to help them grow.” It represents 11 central Ohio counties.

“This investment in the Columbus Region was a strategic decision for Liberty Casting, with the area’s strong workforce and our longtime partnership with the City of Delaware being key factors,” Liberty Casting CEO Jerry Harmeyer said in a press release. “We look forward to leveraging these factors even more as we continue to build upon the company’s established presence in the region.”

The expansion and renovation, to begin this spring and completed in 2015, will allow the foundry to add new equipment and more modern processes. Liberty Casting specializes in gray and ductile iron castings.

“Liberty Casting has been a good employer to 150 people in the Columbus Region, and we are happy the company has decided to expand its business here in the City of Delaware,” Sean Hughes, Delaware’s Economic Development Coordinator, said in the release. “This is another great example of manufacturing growing in our region.”
