Memorial Day, the holiday to honor Americans who have died in military service, and the start of summer vacation season, is Monday, May 26.
The Delaware County Veterans’ Association will coordinate a Memorial Day Observance at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 25, in the Soldiers Circle at Oak Grove Cemetery.
The City of Delaware’s offices will be closed Monday, May 26. Residential refuse will operate on a next-day collection schedule from May 27 through May 31. Rumpke Waste also said service will be delayed one day during the week of the holiday.
Powell will hold a Memorial Day Parade at 10 a.m. May 26, followed by a brief ceremony at the Greater Powell Veterans Memorial in Village Green Park.
Sunbury will hold its annual Memorial Day Flea Market from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 26 in the Village Square. Admission is $1 for those 13 and older; or free to children 12 and under. Parking is free.
The Roop Brothers 8th annual Memorial Ride to honor fallen heroes will take place at 1 p.m. May 24, although motorcyclists can begin to meet up at 11 a.m. at Roop’s, 17 N. Union St.
In nearby Westerville, the annual Field of Heroes will display 3,000 American flags along Cleveland Avenue throughout the weekend.
The Ohio Department of Transportation said most road projects will be suspended over Memorial Day weekend, including Interstate 71 and Interstate 270/U.S. Route 23.
Practice rounds for the 2014 Memorial Golf Tournament begin May 26 at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin. Wednesday, May 28, is Military Appreciation Day, where admission is free for all military personnel with military ID, including immediate family members.
