Stacy Dunbar announced her resignation from the Olentangy Local Schools Board of Education at its annual retreat last week.
Dunbar told the board she is relocating outside of the district. Her resignation was effective June 18.
“I’m sorry to go,” Dunbar told The Gazette. “It’s such an amazing organization, and I’ve been blessed and honored to serve the district.”
She was appointed to the board in 2010 and elected to the seat in 2011.
“I think we’ve managed to get some great projects through, and keep the level of education that we promised for all of our students,” Dunbar said. “I can’t say there’s one thing I would take credit for. I would say it’s the team working together.”
“I can say I was involved with the district long before (being appointed), and I hope my successor has that same pattern of involvement in both their children’s schools and in the district,” Dunbar said.
Applications are being accepted for the seat through midnight June 24. To apply, visit http://www.olentangy.k12.oh.us/.
District Treasurer Brian Kern said the board will review the applications for the vacancy.
“By state law, you can fill it no sooner than 10 days, but you can’t exceed 30 days or a judge then would appoint them on our behalf,” Kern said.
The new board member would fulfill the remainder of Dunbar’s term, which expires at the end of 2015.
“The board appreciates Dunbar’s service to the community and we are eager to review applications and meet with community members interested in fulfilling this important position,” Board of Education President Kevin O’Brien said in a statement.
