Hayes’ girls tennis team used a pair of solid doubles wins to slip past visiting Buckeye Valley Monday in Delaware, adding a win at third singles to notch a 3-2 non-league triumph.
Kelsey Knodell and Kara Wegmiller outlasted BV’s Alexis Poulton and Jo Ann Leienberger 7-6 (2), 4-6, 7-6 (5) at first doubles in what was the match of the day. Emily Miklas and Jillian Goulet earned the Pacers’ other doubles win, handling Julie Sparks and Alex Garber 6-3, 6-0 at second doubles, while Grace Brinkmoeller beat Brienna Garber 6-2, 6-2 at third singles.
The Barons were boosted by Anna Phrakornkham, who beat Anna Adams 6-4, 7-6 (4) at first singles; and Kasey Morris, who defeated Mallory Hackett 6-0, 6-2 at second singles.
Westerville Central 4, Big Walnut 1
Lindsey Hill picked up a solid 7-5, 6-1 win at third singles, but it wasn’t enough as Big Walnut fell to host Westerville Central Monday afternoon.
BOYS GOLF
Liberty bounced back from a so-so outing over the weekend, clipping Olentangy 149-154 Monday at Oakhaven.
Cameron McCloskey led the Patriots with a 35 while Kyle Mitchell (37), Trey Rath (38), Jacob Hickman (39), Ronnie Foth (40) and Jon Flees (40) also contributed.
VOLLEYBALL
Delaware Christian lost the first set, but won the last three on the way to a 3-1 win over host Ridgedale Monday evening.
After falling 20-25 in the opener, the Eagles (4-1) sealed the deal with wins of 25-14, 25-22 and 25-19.
Erin McCullough stuffed the stat sheet with a team-high 16 kills to go with 13 digs and three aces. Other standouts included Liz Sullivan, who finished with seven kills and a team-best 17 digs; Brianna Blackburn, who closed with 29 assists and nine digs; Abbey Evans, who finished with six kills and three blocks; Sarah Rosato, who had five kills and three blocks; and Mary Kerins, who finished with 10 digs.
