Delaware Hayes continued its perfect start to the season, coupling solid pitching and defense with timely hitting to knock off host Worthington Kilbourne 4-1 in Wednesday’s OCC-Capital Division opener.

The Pacers (3-0, 1-0 OCC) led from the start, plating a run in the second and another in the third to give starting pitcher Noble Moore all the support he would need.

The Wolves (1-2, 0-1) cut the deficit in half with a run in the fifth, but Hayes’ Connor Ulmer gave his team some breathing room with a two-out, two-run homer in seventh.

Moore allowed just five hits en route to the complete-game win while Jake South and Braden Schmidt closed with two hits apiece.

•Tyler Johnson and Alec McCurry led the charge as Orange blanked visiting New Albany 3-0 Wednesday in Lewis Center.

Johnson was sharp on the mound from start to finish, allowing just one hit in the complete-game win. He struck out 11 Eagles and walked just one.

McCurry, meanwhile, sparked the Pioneer (3-1) offense with a pair of hits to go with an RBI and a run scored. Orange, which had seven hits in all, scored a run in the second and two in the fourth to smooth out the scoring summary.

•Liberty used a big fifth inning to break things open, rolling to an 8-0 OCC-Central Division win over host Central Crossing Wednesday evening.

The Patriots, already up 1-0, tallied five runs in the fifth to all but end things. They added two more in the seventh.

AJ Kullman led Liberty at the plate, finishing 3 for 4 with a pair of RBIs. Nick Parr was also solid in the win, finishing 2 for 3 with a pair of RBIs.

Mitchell Griffith got the win on the mound, allowing just three hits and three walks in five scoreless innings. He struck out four.
