Park programs slated in October for Delaware County

Preservation Parks of Delaware County has several programs lined up in October.

Registration is not required for the following programs:

• Wednesday, Oct. 7, 6:30 p.m. “Hound Hike.” Bring your socialized canine along for a while with a naturalist. ACME Canine will be the special guest. Gallant Woods Preserve, 2151 Buttermilk Hill Road.

• Sunday, Oct. 11, 3 p.m. “Ravine Hike.” The shale cliffs will be the backdrop as participants head down the stream corridor, stopping to enjoy whatever the season has to offer. A light sprinkling of geology, botany and birding will be part of the hike. Be prepared for obstacles in the stream, and wear appropriate footgear. Ages 16 and older. Shale Hollow Preserve, 6320 Artesian Run, Lewis Center

• Thursday, Oct. 15, 10 a.m. “Homeschool Adventures: Mushroom Mayhem.” Participants will look at the important role of these decomposers, during a hike. Ages 7-12, accompanied by an adult. Gallant Woods Preserve.

• Saturday, Oct. 17, 10 a.m. “Hike for Health.” Continue walking this fall. If this is your first “Healthy Hike,” sign up by Oct. 12 by emailing [email protected]. Hike is free; $5 fee for a T-shirt. All ages. Blues Creek Preserve, 9627 Fontanelle Road.
