The Berkshire Township trustees have selected a replacement for longtime Trustee Bob Carpenter, but they cannot name their new colleague just yet.

“We have made a decision,” Trustee Bill Holtry said.

Holtry and Trustee Rod Myers reached a consensus Monday evening after a lengthy executive session.

They have scheduled a special meeting for 5 p.m. Friday to publicly reveal their choice through the passage of a resolution, based on the advice of the Delaware County Prosecutor’s Office.

Holtry and Myers interviewed five candidates Monday, and then met behind closed doors to discuss their options.

“That’s a tough position to be put in,” Myers said. “I’m glad it’s over.”

Holtry and Myers had 30 days to come to a consensus. Otherwise, the decision would have fallen to Delaware County Juvenile Court Judge Kenneth J. Spicer.

“I think it’s probably one of the best things for Bill and I to kind of get over the hurdles that we had to get over with the outlet mall and all,” Myers said.

The five candidates vying for the seat are Rowland Smith, Rick Bowman, Mike Dattilo, Susan Stanton and John Nicks.

The selected candidate will fill the seat of former Trustee Bob Carpenter, who passed away earlier this month after serving the township for over two decades.
