LIMA — Two new stores opening early this spring will mean the Lima Center is fully leased.
Five Below and Studio 34 will fill in the line of shops, Lima Mall Manager Theresa Morocco said.
“Five Below is new to our market, so it’s fun to see and we’re very excited to have it. We’re seeing a great improvement and change in Lima Center,” Morocco said. “Studio 34 is a group of experienced Lima stylists who are going together to open their own studio. They’re going to do some cosmetic things to the space, tailor it to their preference.”
Five Below markets to teen and preteens. One look at the product selection and you know they’ve targeted the audience well: Headphones, phone cases, toys, designer duct tape, lava lamps, a mowhawk-sporting monkey for St. Valentine’s Day. And it’s all sold for $5 or less.
The company will locate a store in the Lima Center, the strip of shops that shares the complex with Lima Mall on Elida Road. Crews have been renovating the space, which takes up several former smaller storefronts.
Five Below Inc. calls itself the leading retailer of “trend-right, extreme-value merchandise” to the teen and preteen market, for $1 to $5.
Five Below’s assortment of merchandise includes sporting goods, games, fashion accessories and jewelry, hobbies and collectibles, bath and body, candy and snacks, room décor and storage, stationery and school supplies, video game accessories, books, DVDs, iPhone accessories, novelty and “gag,” and seasonal items.
The nearest Five Below stores are in Toledo, Dayton and Columbus.
Five Below was founded by David Schlessinger, creator and founder of Encore Books and Zany Brainy along with Tom Vellios, former CEO of Zany Brainy. The company is headquartered in Philadelphia. The company plans an expansion into Tennessee; after those stores open, Five Below will operate in 20 states.
