Rob Leeds, Delaware County OSU Extension Educator and his wife, Christy, Union County OSU Extension Educator, supporters of North American Farmers’ Direct Marketing Association (NAFDMA), were recently inducted into the NAFDMA Hall of Fame.

The Leeds, who own and operate Leeds Farm of Ostrander, Ohio were selected for the honor by the NAFDMA board of directors. They received the recognition during the Celebrate Excellence Banquet at the North American Farmers’ Direct Marketing Convention. The 2014 convention was held in Kansas City, Missouri in February.

Rob served as a leader on the board of directors in nearly every position over more than a decade. Christy brought teaching techniques and activities to the association that led to the building and sharing of ideas, and ultimately to the prosperity for agritourism enterprises across the continent. Most importantly, Rob and Christy have been that iconic couple whose complimentary skills, talents, and personalities demonstrate what success looks and acts like.

“None of these words capture the feelings and appreciation of the hundreds of members whose lives and businesses Rob and Christy have impacted, nor the relationships they have developed within this association. But NAFDMA’s Hall of Fame is not about words, it’s about outcomes,” stated Charlie Touchette, NAFDMA Executive Director during the induction.

To be considered for the Hall of Fame, nominees must have been a NAFDMA member for at least 5 years, they need to have shown a great appreciation for NAFDMA and its efforts, they must have participated in NAFDMA events such as tours and conference, and they must have direct involvement in farm marketing. As a team, Rob & Christy Leeds continue to be highly rated tour leaders for the annual NAFDMA “School on Wheels” bus tour.

Rob and Christy Leeds purchased land near Ostrander in 1994. It was then known as Leeds’ Pumpkin Farm. Leeds Farm is open to the public for the fall season and offers barnyard activities, hayrides and farm animals, along with their pumpkins and school tours. In addition to the farm, the Leeds are actively involved in their local community and through their work, support their regional farming industry. Rob has conducted many workshops and partnered with other OSU Extension Educators, giving farmers a unique opportunity to experience what alternative production systems are all about. Christy Leeds is also an extension educator and focuses on 4-H youth development.
