Buckeye Valley’s boys golf team won its second tournament of the young season, edging River Valley in what was a two-team race for the MOAC Invitational title Tuesday at Oakhaven.

The Barons took top honors with a combined 325 — a mark boosted by Jake Kehoe’s team-low 73. Zach Thomson (81), Dan Wright (85) and Grant Kelly (86) smoothed out the squad’s top four.

“Jake had an amazing round,” BV coach Kyle Ellwood said. “He put the ball in play and told me it was the best round of putting he has ever had. He made some birdie putts, saved par a few times, it was nice to see.

“All the guys stayed focused. They knew what the goal was and executed.”

River Valley fired a combined 329 to finish second, getting a medal-winning effort from Caden Orewiler (69).

Pleasant rounded out the top three with a 341.

Dublin Invitational

Kyle Mitchell fired a medal-winning 69 and Liberty nabbed team runner-up honors during the Dublin Invitational Tuesday at the Golf Club of Dublin.

The Patriots carded a combined 291 — a mark equal to that of first-place St. Xavier — but had to settle for second due to the fifth-man tiebreaker. Trey Rath (71), Ronnie Foth (74), Cameron McCloskey (77) and Jon Flees (83) complemented Mitchell with solid rounds.

Olentangy was also in action, firing a 328 to finish in the middle of the pack. Ryan Wright led the Braves with a 78 while Jake Gerard (81), Cameron Casto (83) and Eric Dop rounded out the team’s top four.
