Sam Midura finished with a team-best three hits and was one of four Pacers to knock in two runs as the Hayes baseball team outlasted visiting Marion Harding 14-10 Thursday in Delaware.
Down 1-0 heading into the bottom of the second, Hayes (7-15) scored three times to take an early lead.
The Presidents answered with four in the third, but the Pacers came right back with one in the bottom half, two more in the fourth and eight in the fifth to take control.
Mason W. Davis, Mason McGeath and Josh Allen joined Midura in the two-RBI club while Noah Watts had a triple and a run scored in the win.
McGeath, who pitched 2.2 innings of relief, picked up the win on the mound.
Next up, Hayes travels to Westland for Friday’s non-league showdown with the Cougars before hosting Cardington-Lincoln in a regular season-ending doubleheader Saturday.
Saturday also marks the second annual Baseball/Softball Recognition Day at Hayes — an event dedicated to the players and parents that make the Delaware rec leagues what they are today.
Little leaguers will have the opportunity to take the field with the Pacers’ varsity squad for the National Anthem prior to the 11 a.m. game against the Pirates.
Immediately following the game, players will have an opportunity to run the bases with the varsity guys and grab a pic and autograph or two.
The second game of the doubleheader will start at 1 p.m.
Orange 11, Grove City 5
Tyler Brown hit a pair of three-run homers, one as part of a six-run second and another in the sixth as the Pioneers (21-3) powered their way to a solid non-league win Thursday in Grove City.
Remington Steele tossed the first six innings to pick up the win on the mound.
Delaware Christian 16, Gahanna Christian 0
The Eagles (5-9) scored in each of their plate appearances, including six times in the fourth, to soar to a solid five-inning win Thursday in Delaware.
Riley Michalak had a pair of doubles as part of a three-hit effort while Ryan Manny had two hits to go with a game-high three RBI.
Andrew Standley pitched four innings of one-hit ball to pick up the win on the mound. He struck out six and walked one.
SOFTBALL
Big Walnut (13-12) scored a combined 11 runs in its last two plate appearances to double up host Franklin Heights 16-8 Thursday in Columbus.
Taryn Hammond, who had four hits and three RBI, sparked the offense with a two-run homer in the third while Kate Petty picked up the complete-game win in the circle.
Also: North Union 6, Buckeye Valley 1; East Knox 15, Delaware Christian 1.
GIRLS LACROSSE
Brooke Delara and Riley Keane finished with four goals apiece as Orange knocked off visiting Big Walnut 22-3 Thursday in Lewis Center.
Senior defenders Eily Cogan and Lindsey Hopeck also scored in the win.
