Pioneers win pair to start season

The Orange volleyball team was solid in its 2015 debut, picking up a pair of non-league wins Saturday in Lewis Center.

The Pioneers, thanks to 11 kills from Jordan Gels, 15 assists from Carrigan O’Reilly and nine digs from Sophie Dahn, beat Central Crossing 25-18, 25-9 in the opener.

Against Centennial, a match Orange won 25-11, 25-10, Gels led the attack with eight kills while Lauren Perone finished with 12 assists and Dahn added 11 digs.

Liberty 3, Gahanna Lincoln 1

The Patriots picked up a solid season-opening win Saturday, dropping the host Lions 29-27, 25-20, 21-25, 25-16.

Madison Brenner and Shelby Stewart led the attack with 11 and 10 kills, respectively. Stewart also had a team-leading 12 blocks while Maddie Fogg ran the offense with 36 assists and Lauren Nichols finished with a team-high 22 digs.

Buckeye Valley 3, Loudonville 0; Highland 3, Buckeye Valley 0

The Barons split a pair of season-opening showdowns Saturday at Highland, knocking off Loudonville 25-10, 25-17, 25-21 before falling to the host Scots 25-6, 25-14, 25-11.

BV’s Olivia Busby led the way in the win, collecting eight service aces. Cameron Romo was also solid, closing with 18 assists, while Alyssa Thurston hammered out 10 kills.
