Liberty’s Alexia Meyer handled Westerville Central’s Nicole Cardwell 6-2, 6-3 during Friday’s state-qualifying match at Hilliard Davidson, earning her second straight trip to the state showcase … a trip she won’t be making alone.

Of the six other Patriots in action at the Division I district tennis tournament, Anna Delaney and Alexis Steer punched a ticket to states as a doubles duo, handling Dublin Jerome’s Stephanie George and Emily Neal 6-1, 6-1 in their state-qualifying showdown.

Another pair of local doubles teams battled to the district quarterfinals, but fell one win shy of state qualification. Olentangy’s Bri Brdicka and Kathleen Jones, who advanced to states last fall, were edged by Upper Arlington’s Olivia and Paige Kompa by a 2-6, 6-3, 6-7 (6-8) spread while Liberty’s Lizzie Radkiewicz and Avivah Wang fell to Jerome’s Neha Dudipala and Courtney Go after getting off to a great start, 6-0, 3-6, 3-6.

In other state-qualifying matches, Liberty’s Sidney Reineke saw what was a stellar season come to a close with a 0-6, 3-6 loss to Jerome’s Ellee Bullock.

All that’s left for the qualifiers now is to battle it out for seeding … and district bragging rights. The district semifinals, finals and third-place matches will be contested today at Upper Arlington.
