Leo Wells missed a perfect game by a single pin, combining scores of 215 and 299 for a 514 series to lead the Buckeye Valley boys bowling team to a season-opening win over Marion Harding Wednesday afternoon.

The Barons beat the Presidents 2,496-2,358.

Other BV contributors included Dawson Munday (358 series), Tony Ruark (449), Jim Davis (406) and Robbie Ashburn (218).

“The boys came together as a team,” Baron coach Madonna Wells said. “After practice yesterday, I wasn’t sure what team would show up, but when the lights came on they were ready to fight.”

The girls battled, but fell to Harding by a 2,015-1,764 spread.

Tara McClure led the way with games of 158 and 181. Other top contributors included Bree Hall (320 series) and Mattea Ream (274).

“These girls are young and don’t have a lot of varsity experience, yet they have made great improvements,” Madonna Wells said. “Harding is a tough way to start the season … great team.”

Delaware Christian used a strong first half to get the job done, parlaying a 22-10 halftime edge into a 41-36 season-opening win over host Madison Christian Tuesday night.

Caitlyn Ruminski led the way with 13 points to go with six rebounds. Other DCS standouts included Madie Morgan (10 points, five rebounds), Lyssi Snouffer (15 rebounds, four points) and Brianna Blackburn (nine rebounds, four points).
