The Big Walnut baseball team couldn’t overcome a well-rounded performance by Gahanna Lincoln and fell 11-0 in six innings in the Division I regional semifinals Friday at Dublin Coffman High School.

“There’s nothing to be ashamed about how we finished,” Golden Eagles coach Jack Schone said. “We (had) 13 straight wins … we just faced a pitcher that got hot today.”

The Golden Lions struck for five runs in the first inning and never looked back.

And Jackson Wolf, a West Virginia commit, didn’t have to look back. He didn’t allow a hit and finished with 10 strikeouts over his six-inning complete game.

He hit two batters, walked two others and a fifth base-runner reached on an error.

Karter Jackson’s two-run double in the first got the Lions (17-7) on the board. He added a two-run single in the fourth and finish with three hits to lead the way.

Deven Lee provided the other big blow in the first with a two-run single. He added a sacrifice fly in the sixth to give him three RBI overall.

“They hit us in the mouth in the first inning and we struggled to recoup,” Schone said.

Jarod White had two hits, three runs and a RBI and Josh Oddi drove in a pair of runs for Gahanna.

“It is what it is … they just played a better game,” Schone said. “We just didn’t have it. They did and we didn’t.”

Austin Becker took the loss for the Golden Eagles (23-6). He allowed eight runs (five earned) over 3.1 innings.

“Austin was having trouble locating his off-speed (in the first inning) and when you have trouble locating your off-speed, (they) can sit on the fastball,” Schone said.

Colton Lee (1.2 innings) and Henry von Hollen (one inning) also saw time on the mound.

“Where (the team) has come from the beginning of the year to the end is just awesome,” Schone said. “I told them I loved them.”

Gahanna meets Olentangy Orange in the regional final today at 5 p.m. at Coffman.
