Government sues to block AT&T, T-Mobile merger

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Jus­tice Depart­ment took the unusual step Wednes­day to try to block AT&T’s $39 bil­lion pur­chase of T-Mobile USA, argu­ing that the pro­posed merger would lead to higher wire­less prices, less inno­va­tion and fewer choices for consumers.

US troops coming home? Obama to say on Wednesday

WASHINGTON (AP) — Pres­i­dent Barack Obama will announce the crit­i­cal next steps in America’s decade-long war in Afghanistan on Wednes­day, out­lin­ing both a plan to start bring­ing thou­sands of U.S. troops home next month and a broader with­drawal blue­print aimed at giv­ing Afghans con­trol of their own secu­rity in 2014.

RICHMOND, Va. — First came organic, then free-range, then local. Now dis­cern­ing din­ers with a pen­chant for spend­ing a pre­mium to know where food comes from are push­ing DNA-traceable meat onto restau­rant menus. The tech­nol­ogy — which allows meat to be traced from the farm to the fridge — has been used in Europe and other coun­tries for decades, but has been slow to catch on in America.
