Doug “Dougie” Adams was in the bed­room next to the one where Joel Sell­ers shot and killed George McArthur in the morn­ing hours of March 14 at 781 Lib­erty Road in Delaware. “I heard a knock on the bed­room door,” Adams said dur­ing tes­ti­mony Tues­day in the Delaware County Com­mon Pleas Court trial of Sell­ers. “That’s when the com­mo­tion hap­pened. I heard a thump sound. George’s pit bull jumped on the bed with me. Then, I heard a pop. Me and the dog both jumped. Joel came out and said, ‘Call 911, I just shot George.’

Attorney: Killing was in self-defense

The trial of the Delaware res­i­dent and Iraq War vet­eran accused of killing his room­mate in March went under way Mon­day, as pros­e­cu­tors re-created the crime scene and pre­sented tes­ti­mony from two wit­nesses. In open­ing state­ments, Delaware County Pros­e­cu­tor Carol O’Brien told jurors that Joel Sell­ers, 25, killed George McArthur, 24, a child­hood friend, after they argued about a party hosted at the town­house they lived in together at 781 Lib­erty Road in Delaware.

New class to school public on 911 system

Most peo­ple know if they pick up the phone and dial 911, some­one will come. But what hap­pens in between? Delaware County offi­cials are hop­ing to peel back some of the mys­tery. The Delaware County Emer­gency Ser­vices Office is accept­ing appli­cants for a citizen’s acad­emy, in which par­tic­i­pants will learn about the 911 process from start to fin­ish. The once-weekly classes start 7 p.m. this Tues­day, Oct. 11 and run through Nov. 22.

COPLEY — Police iden­ti­fied the man respon­si­ble for shoot­ing and killing seven peo­ple in a ter­ri­fy­ing ram­page over the week­end near Akron, as a woman who knew him said Mon­day that he was an unpleas­ant, dis­liked per­son who was involved in an estate dispute.
