
Some elected officials in Delaware County have chosen to bow out of public office at the end of the year, while other familiar faces are seeking to make a return to the ballot this November. In total, 101 people filed paperwork with the Delaware County Board of Elections to run for 62 various township, school board and village and city council positions. The deadline for candidates wishing to run for local offices expiring at the end of this year passed at 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Time is running out for Delaware City to strike an agreement with the YMCA, if the city’s planned recreation center is to open in early November as proposed. A motion vote on the agreement prior to holding the typical three readings on the matter was defeated. Five votes were required to approve the suspension; council voted 4–3.

Despite Delaware Police Chief Russ Martin’s recommendation, Delaware City Council agreed to not contest a liquor permit as requested by Nova Restaurant, LLC. Martin said a routine liquor permit background investigation revealed some “disconcerting” information, such as the current charges against restaurant owner Denise Dunlap.

Delaware City Council heard an updated version of the YMCA proposal to take over some city’s recreational functions that, if accepted, could increase the city’s anticipated savings to about $147,000 a year.

Mobile food vendors now can sell their hamburgers and hot dogs on private property in downtown Delaware. After months of discussion on the topic, Delaware City Council on Monday took two votes on the issue, one which upholds the city planning commission’s vote to not include an exclusion zone and another that approves zoning text and minor changes allowing for a more streamlined process for those setting up temporary food carts in the city.
